The gardens in kings park were spectacular, long live the king! The cycling club did well with their lands end to john o'groats bid. As ever the duck race was a huge excitement. The 'Kings Deer' are by far the best feast at this time of year, but moving with the times have tried some modern establishments.&lt;br /&gt;A hearty feast was served by the wenches at Thaymar, the farm of ice cream fame. The merry clan had a selection of dishes which proved to be of reasonable fayre. Being of stout appetite I request both rice and roasts, but to no avail without addtional gold changing hands. Convivial atmosphere but rather noisy as a result of the refrigeration units aiming to destroy the planets ozone on their own. Just open after 18 months of renovation, the Retford Museum in Amcott House held the Country Life fair. Reconnected with rural life, though you're never far away in this area, the land that time forgot. The museum is stunning and a place not to be missed on a visit to this area. Local history from the Bronze age, Romans, Pilgrim Fathers, and the last 100 years including some great artwork. Following the hike in prices in the car parks with increases of up to 100%, I have seen 10 wardens at work together in the same street, taking photos of cars and issuing tickets. Couldn't believe my eyes, the size of the encampment with 3,000 Scouts and Guides in all sorts of tents and marquees old and new. One tent looked so ancient I thought it was Friar Tucks, but he still had his when I returned to our camp, which was not far away. Took the bus from the airport down to Retfords new bus station - great trip, my name emblazoned all over the new bus. Apparantly the contract is signed for 3-years. No queues, no long walks to airplane, park outside the terminal - just as good as last year.
